HURDLER

Class of 2025, Ida B Wells-Barnett HS

AVERY COKER

Portland, Oregon

I started running track & field in the sixth grade, and found my stride when I discovered the hurdles. In my sophomore year, I had the incredible privilege of becoming the OSAA 6A High School 100H State Champion. I was able to come back for the 2024 State Championships and defend my title. Through the long road to becoming a state champion, I’m most grateful for all that I’ve learned. The struggle and moments of doubt have taught me the importance of self-belief, something I knew I had to have if I wanted to reach my goals.

Throughout my athletic journey, I've learned that success on the track is not just about individual performance but is a testament to the unwavering support of my coaches, teammates, and family. Their belief in me has been a driving force, and it's a constant reminder of the importance of humility and teamwork in accomplishing what I dream.

Track continues to teach me resilience in the face of setbacks, determination when facing adversity, and the value of hard work. I've come to appreciate the journey itself is as rewarding as the destination.
